Have 2 vacs and they both clean up the grain but they also crack plenty. Just think about how fast something has to be moving to become airborne and when it encounters a solid surface anywhere it will cause damage. No way would I use any kind of vac for any type of seed. We put a pile of beans through our vac so we every once in a while pull it apart and adjust the airlock paddles to make sure we are moving the max amount of beans. Also running vac (we too have a walinga ) full is a must. Lots of bins we go and pick up from we just use the vac and it doesn't damage the germ unless you already have really dry beans. We cut a bunch of side shoots on some of our seed bins for this purpose then we use to vac to finish. Other posts have it pretty much right on. Quite a bit of experience moving seed beans. A vac was a distant second followed by a brush or cupped auger. When I grew seed for NK they did some testing and they wanted a belt moving the seed. Something was out of wack then.impossible for a belt to have more damage than a vac.lots of guys think that 'air' is the best.but you have to REALLY watch the speed as you can do a LOT of damage with air. He stated that in Iowa and Illinois University studies that moving seed with a vac had a noticeably lower chance of damaging seed then a belt or augur. I was looking at a been hustler in talking with the owner. Posted 09:45 (#4257097 - in reply to #4257041) Subject: RE: Is a grain vac a good way to move soybean seed? Pioneer uses vacs like that to pick up seed from the farmer's bins. Posted 09:29 (#4257067 - in reply to #4257041) Subject: RE: Is a grain vac a good way to move soybean seed? I'm not using treated seed now but that could change. I could put an auger on the truck but I'm not sure that is the way to go in the future. Trying to save trips to seed dealer, my tender only holds 100 bu. Will it be gentle enough on the seed or is this a bad idea. I've got a Wallinga grain vac that sucks it in one side and blows it out the other, no augers involved. Thinking about getting my bean seed in a tandem truck and then moving it over to a seed tender.
